Introduction
The Dowson Group is a collective of engineering companies developing conveying equipment and related products.
Problem
With a series of acquisitions pending and various new products awaiting launch, the group wanted to capitalise on the Internet by publishing a range of press releases on their corporate website. The group does not have a resident web designer and was dismayed at the costs involved in repeatedly contracting an outside design agency to publish their press releases.
They asked Digital-Word for help...
Solution
We created a news server with a simple, yet powerful user interface to enable the Dowson Group to publish their press releases directly on to the Internet. We built several distinctive features into the system:
-
The access controlled "Publisher" has a very simple interface, allowing the group's marketing department to use the system with only minimal training
-
The "Publisher" allows the firm to create documents in advance and offers a powerful scheduling facility to control publication and expiration of their press releases. Upon expiration, the marketing department can choose to archive the page, or delete it from the system
-
The group's acquisition plans meant that corporate rebranding was a distinct possibility, so we created a "theme" editor that would allow the group to redesign the colour scheme if necessary
-
Accountability was a priority in the design, so we added a comprehensive auditing system to keep track of usage of the news server
-
The public-facing elements of the system were blended seamlessly into the design of the group's existing website
-
The web user can choose from a variety of options governing the range of documents presented and their sorting order
-
The system boasts a powerful full-text searching facility with scoping, wild-cards and boolean logic controls
Problem solved!
